Frankenfish Giants: The Monster Snakehead Every Angler Dreams Of
The northern snakehead's world-record and state-record fish keep climbing as the population matures. Fish over 15 pounds and 30+ inches are landed every season, most from the tidal Potomac system.
What makes a giant
Big snakehead didn't get old by being careless. The largest fish hold in the thickest cover and the best ambush spots. Target deeper grass edges, laydowns and creek-mouth structure, and be ready — a big one will bury itself the instant it's hooked.
Gear up
Don't go light. Heavy braid, a stout flipping stick and strong hooks are the difference between a photo and a heartbreak. A big net and a plan for handling a thrashing, toothy fish are essential.
Landed a monster? We'd love to feature it — send us the photo and story.
