Potomac River Snakehead Report: Summer Topwater Is On
Conditions on the tidal Potomac have lined up for classic summer snakehead fishing. Water temps are in the low 80s, grass is up, and fish are shallow and aggressive on calm mornings.
What's working
Hollow-body frogs walked over matted grass are the go-to, with the best bite in the first two hours of light and again at dusk. Chatterbaits along the outside grass edges are picking up fish through midday.
Where
Backwater creeks, spatterdock fields and drains from the DC line down through the Maryland and Virginia flats are all holding fish. Look for fry balls — orange clouds of babies with a parent or two nearby — and cast right through them.
