Blackwood Lake

Blackwood Lake fishes like a lot of the region's snakehead water: a still, non-tidal pond where the fish set up in the thick stuff and rarely leave it far behind. Look for pads, matted grass, and any downed wood along the margins — snakehead will sit tight to that cover, ambush from the shade line, and use it as a highway between feeding and resting spots. Since there's no tide to plan around, your clock is light and temperature. Early morning and last light are prime, especially when there's a little wind stacking bait and debris against a grass line. Through the heat of the day, shift your focus to whatever shade the lake offers — overhanging brush, shadow lines off timber — because that's where fish slide to stay comfortable.

Shore access here is solid, with parking mapped close to the water, closest around 0.27 mi out, so a bank approach working the pad edges and wood is very doable. If you'd rather cover water from a kayak or small boat, there's a ramp roughly 1.45 miles off, which opens up more of the shoreline cover in a single trip.

Tactics stay simple and snakehead-proven: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the pads and grass, chatterbaits for a subsurface option, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker mats. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you need the muscle to horse these fish out of cover the second they eat.
