Edgewood Lake within FDR Park

Edgewood Lake sits inside FDR Park and it's earned a reputation as one of the more consistent snakehead waters in the area. Since it's a non-tidal lake, there's no current or tide swing to plan around — instead, focus on light and weather. Snakehead here relate hard to cover: matted vegetation, lily pads, submerged grass lines, and any downed wood along the bank edges. They'll sit tight in that cover, ambushing baitfish, and they push shallow onto pads and grass during low light — early morning and again toward dusk are prime windows. On overcast or windy days, wind-blown pockets of cover can fire all day, and once the sun gets high and the heat sets in, look for shade lines under trees or thicker canopy where fish tuck up to escape the glare.

Shore access is solid here — parking is mapped close to the water, with the nearest spot only about 0.1 mi from the bank, so you can walk right up and start working pads and grass without much of a hike. If you'd rather fish from a kayak or small boat, there's a ramp mapped roughly 1.5 mi away, which opens up water that's tougher to reach on foot and lets you work the outside edges of cover from a different angle.

Tactic-wise, this is topwater country. Weedless frogs and buzzbaits worked right across the mats and pad fields draw the most violent strikes, especially in that low-light window. Chatterbaits fished along grass edges and wood cover also produce well, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker mats can pull fish out of cover when topwater goes quiet. Given the heavy vegetation, don't go light — 40 to 65 lb braid is standard here, giving you the backbone to horse fish out of the slop once they eat.
