Manayunk Canal is a quiet, non-tidal stretch, so you're not chasing a tide window here—you're chasing light and cover instead. Snakehead in this canal act like ambush predators, holding tight to whatever structure breaks up the current seams: shoreline grass, laydown wood, and any matted vegetation or pad-like cover that collects along the banks. Early morning and last light are the prime windows, when fish slide shallow to feed. On bright, hot afternoons, look for shade lines under overhanging brush or wherever wind has pushed debris and duckweed into a seam—snakehead will stack under that cover waiting for something to swim by.

Shore access is about as easy as it gets—mapped parking sits just 0.02 mi from the water, so you can walk up and start working the bank without much of a hike. If you'd rather cover more water from a kayak or small boat, there's a ramp roughly 2.32 mi away, which lets you drift and hit multiple pockets of cover in a single outing.

Tactically, weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits are the go-to over matted grass and wood, especially in low light. Chatterbaits work well for covering water along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker cover seal the deal when fish are buried tight. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid—you'll need the muscle to horse these fish out of cover once they eat.
