Mousam River

Mousam River is a solid pick for giant snakehead if you treat it like any other ambush-predator water: fish the cover, not open water. These fish hold tight to pads, matted grass, and downed wood, sitting motionless until something crosses their window. Since it's non-tidal, you're not working around a clock tied to moving water — instead key on light and wind. Early morning and last light are prime, when snakehead push shallow to hunt the edges of vegetation. Once the sun climbs, look for shaded pockets under overhanging brush or wind-blown mats where baitfish and frogs concentrate; a steady breeze pushing into a grass line can turn on a bite fast.

Access here is mostly a shore game. There's mapped parking right on top of the water, as close as 0.04 mi, so you can walk in and start working the bank without much hassle. If you want to cover more water, a kayak is the better call than a boat — there's no ramp mapped within about 3 miles, so this reads as a bank or carry-in spot rather than a trailer-launch fishery.

Gear up heavy: 40-65 lb braid, a stout rod, and weedless presentations. Walk a weedless topwater frog or buzzbait right over the mats, or slow-roll a chatterbait along grass edges. When they short-strike topwater, follow up with a weedless soft plastic worked through the same cover. If Mousam's quiet, the Saco River holds snakehead too and fishes similarly.
