Newton Pond is a quiet, non-tidal water, so you're fishing light and structure rather than any moving current. Snakehead here relate hard to cover — pads, matted grass, and any wood or brush along the margins. They'll sit tight in the shade of vegetation, ambushing anything that wanders past, and on calm days you can often spot their wakes or hear the telltale slurp as they gulp air at the surface. Since there's no tide to plan around, focus on light rather than water movement: first and last light are prime, and any wind pushing bait and warmth into a grass line can trigger a bite even at midday. In the heat of summer, shaded pockets under overhanging brush hold fish that won't move far.

Access is simple but limited — there's mapped parking about 0.38 mi from the water, so plan on a short walk with your gear. There's no boat ramp within about 3 miles, which makes this much more of a bank or hand-carry kayak spot than a trailer-boat destination; a light kayak or float tube lets you slip along the pad edges quietly.

Go-to tactics are classic snakehead fare: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the matted cover, chatterbaits along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker pads. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid to horse fish out before they bury you in the vegetation.
