Silverwood Lake

Silverwood Lake doesn't get talked about as a snakehead water often, but where these fish do show, they behave the same way they do everywhere else — they hold tight to cover and ambush. Look for any pads, matted grass, or submerged wood along the margins of the lake, especially in the calmer coves where the sun warms the shallows. Since this is a non-tidal lake, you're not timing water movement at all — instead key on light and wind. Early and late in the day, when the light is low and the surface is calm, snakehead push up shallow to hunt. Through the heat of midday, shift to whatever shade you can find — undercut banks, overhanging brush, shadow lines off timber — and work wind-blown pockets of cover, since that's where baitfish get pushed and predators follow.

Shore access here is solid, with parking mapped only about 0.14 mile from the water, so you can walk in, work a stretch of bank quietly, and cover multiple pieces of cover on foot. If you want to reach the thicker matted grass or timber further off the bank, a kayak or small boat opens things up, with a boat ramp mapped roughly 1.88 miles away.

Tactics stay classic snakehead fare: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits walked right across the slop and pad fields, chatterbaits worked along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker cover. Spool up with 40 to 65 pound braid — you need the horsepower to horse them out before they wrap you up in the vegetation.
