Tohickon Creek

Tohickon Creek is a quiet, non-tidal stretch, which actually makes it easier to fish on your own schedule since there's no tide table to fuss with. Snakehead here relate hard to cover — pockets of pads, matted grass, and laydown wood along the banks are where they'll sit and ambush. Slower, shaded stretches and any wind-blown edges where debris and baitfish collect are worth working over, especially once the water warms and fish push shallow to hunt and guard fry.

Early and late in the day, low light gets these fish moving and more willing to blow up on a topwater. Midday in summer heat, look to shade lines and deeper pockets tight to cover rather than open water. Shore access is solid — there's mapped parking as close as about 0.06 mi from the water, so you can walk in and work banks methodically. If you'd rather cover more water or slip a kayak into skinnier backwaters, there's a boat ramp mapped roughly 0.22 mi off that gets you on the water quickly.

Gear up heavy — 40 to 65 lb braid is non-negotiable once a snakehead buries into grass. Weedless frogs and buzzbaits worked over pads and matted cover are the go-to, with chatterbaits and weedless soft plastics as good follow-up options when they miss the topwater strike.
