Big Creek

Big Creek is classic snakehead water — a quiet, non-tidal creek where fish settle into cover and don't move much on any schedule but their own. Look for pads, matted grass, laydowns, and shady seams along the bank. Snakehead here relate to structure hard; they'll sit under a mat or beside a log waiting to ambush, so working the edges of cover methodically pays off more than covering open water fast.

Since there's no tide to plan around, focus on low light — early morning and last light in the evening — when fish push shallow and get aggressive on top. Through the heat of the day, shift to shaded pockets and any wind-blown cover, which stacks bait and pulls snakehead tight against the edges.

Access here is rough and unimproved — there's no mapped parking within about a mile and a half, and no boat ramp within roughly three miles, so plan on this being a bank or kayak carry-in creek. A kayak lets you slide along the grass lines and pad fields quietly, which this water rewards.

Tackle-wise, keep it simple and weedless: hollow-body frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the mats, chatterbaits along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker cover. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need the muscle to horse fish out of the slop once they eat.
