Cat Point Creek is classic snakehead water — a quiet, non-tidal system where fish set up shop in the thick stuff and don't move much unless they're feeding or defending fry. Look for matted grass, lily pads, and any laid-down wood along the banks. Snakehead here will bury into cover and ambush from it, so target the edges where open water meets vegetation, pockets inside pad fields, and shaded undercuts along the bank. Because there's no tide pushing water in and out, you're fishing light and temperature instead of a moving clock — mornings and evenings are prime, and any wind pushing into a grassy bank can trigger a bite by stacking bait and oxygen along that edge. Midday in summer, slide into shade pockets where fish hold tight to escape the sun.

Access is limited and worth planning around. There's no boat ramp mapped within about 3 miles, so this leans toward a bank or kayak-carry approach — a kayak or canoe gives you the mobility to work pad edges quietly. Shore access exists but is a hike, with mapped parking closest about 2.73 miles from the water, so pack light and plan your walk.

Go-to tactics: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the matted cover, chatterbaits for a subsurface option, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker pads. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need the backbone to horse fish out of cover the second they eat.
