Crabbe Mill Stream

Crabbe Mill Stream is classic snakehead water — a tidal creek with the kind of shallow, sun-warmed cover these fish love to ambush from. Look for them tucked into pads, matted grass, and laydown wood along the margins, especially where a break in the vegetation gives them a clean shot at baitfish or frogs passing by. Snakehead here will sit motionless for long stretches, so working cover slowly and thoroughly pays off more than covering water fast.

Because this creek is tidal, with the nearest NOAA reference at Glebe Point on the Great Wicomico River about 4.4 miles off, timing matters. High tide pushes snakehead deep into flooded grass and brush where they're nearly impossible to reach. As the tide starts to fall, they slide out of that cover toward creek channels and edges, concentrating in predictable ambush points — this ebb window is when the bite really turns on.

Access is bank-oriented. There's no boat ramp mapped within about 3 miles, so this is best fished as a shore or kayak/canoe carry-in spot, with parking nearby, closest around 0.66 mi from the water. Stick with 40-65 lb braid and go weedless — topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked over the pads, along with chatterbaits and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker cover, are the go-to snakehead tactics here.
