Crooked Run

Crooked Run is classic snakehead water — a quiet, non-tidal creek where the fish set up shop in the thick stuff and don't move much until conditions push them. Look for pads, matted grass, and laydown wood along the margins; that's where snakehead ambush from and where they'll hold tight on bright, still days. Since there's no tide to plan around, focus on low light — first hour of daylight and the last hour before dark are prime — and don't ignore wind-blown pockets of cover, where baitfish get pushed in and snakehead follow. On hot afternoons, shift to whatever shade you can find along the bank; that's often the only active window left.

Access here is straightforward. Shore anglers have mapped parking close by, only about 0.07 mi from the water, so you can walk in and start fishing fast. If you'd rather cover more of the creek, there's a boat ramp mapped roughly 0.05 mi away, making it easy to launch a kayak or small boat and work the whole shoreline instead of one static spot.

Tactics stay simple and proven: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked slow and twitchy over the pads and grass, chatterbaits for a little more vibration in stained water, and weedless soft plastics pitched right into the wood. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need the muscle to horse these fish out of cover once they eat.
