How to fish Dogue Creek just W of Mount Vernon Yacht Club

Access, tides & where the fish hold. Pick how you're fishing:
๐ŸŒŠ Tidal water NOAA Marshall Hall, Md. ยท 1.3 mi
Falling now โ€” next Low tide 8:22 PM (in 3h 33m).

๐ŸŽฃ Fish the tide, not the clock: snakehead pin bait to the grass on the flood, then feed hard as the falling (ebb) tide drains it out of the cover โ€” the last couple hours of the outgoing into low slack is prime.

Dogue Creek is classic snakehead water once you get up into the skinny, brushy sections west of the yacht club. These fish push shallow to ambush baitfish around pads, matted grass, and fallen wood, and they'll sit right in the thick of it, often just a rod length off the edge of cover. Look for pockets in the vegetation, laydowns along the bank, and any transition where hard bottom meets soft muck โ€” snakehead stack up in these spots waiting to blow up on anything that swims or splashes overhead.

Because this stretch is tidal, with the nearest NOAA reference at Marshall Hall about 1.3 miles off, water movement dictates where fish sit. High tide floods the grass and pads, scattering snakehead into newly flooded cover where they're tough to pattern. As the tide starts to ebb, baitfish get pulled off the flats and funneled into creek channels and cuts, and that's when snakehead switch on and feed hard. Fishing the last couple hours of the falling tide is usually your best window here.

Access is simple โ€” shore parking is mapped right at the water, closest spot about 0.05 mi away, and a boat ramp is just as close, around 0.03 mi out, so both bank anglers and small boat or kayak anglers can get in easily. Stick with weedless frogs, buzzbaits, and chatterbaits worked over cover, plus weedless soft plastics punched into holes in the grass, all on 40-65 lb braid to horse fish out of the slop.
