Dougue Creek

Dougue Creek fishes like classic snakehead water: a tidal creek where invasive northern snakehead stack up in shallow, thick cover rather than roaming open water. Look for pads, matted grass, and any laydown wood along the banks and backs of coves. These fish are ambush predators that sit tight to structure waiting to blast anything that crosses overhead, so target the edges where cover meets slightly deeper water or current seams.

Because Dougue Creek is tidal, with the nearest NOAA station at Marshall Hall about 1.2 miles off, tide stage matters as much as location. High water pushes snakehead deep into flooded grass and pads where they're tough to reach. As the tide starts to fall, baitfish and frogs get flushed out of that cover into cuts and pinch points, and snakehead follow, setting up an aggressive ambush bite. That ebb window is prime time here.

Access is workable either way. Shore anglers have mapped parking about 0.24 miles from the water, close enough for a quick walk-in session. If you want to cover more cover-lined bank, a boat ramp roughly 0.22 miles away lets you slide a kayak or small boat in and work the shallows methodically. Stick with weedless frogs and buzzbaits over the thick stuff, chatterbaits along edges, and weedless soft plastics, all on 40-65 lb braid to horse fish out of cover once hooked.
