Holmes Run

Holmes Run is classic snakehead water — a tidal creek where the fish tuck into whatever cover they can find and ambush from there. Look for pads, matted grass edges, laydowns, and any wood along the banks. Snakeheads sit tight to that structure, often in skinny water, and won't move far to feed, so precision casts tight to cover matter more than covering distance.

Because it's tidal, with Alexandria as the closest NOAA reference point, the water movement dictates where fish position. On high tide, snakeheads push way back into flooded grass and shallow pockets you can barely reach. As the tide starts to fall, they slide back out toward the main channel edges, and that ebb movement is when the bite really turns on — baitfish get pulled out with the current and snakeheads key on that transition.

Shore access is workable, with mapped parking about 0.42 mi from the water, close enough for a reasonable walk-in trip. If you want more mobility to follow the tide and hit multiple cover pockets, a kayak makes sense, with a boat ramp mapped about 0.8 mi out. Either way, rig heavy — 40-65 lb braid, weedless frogs and buzzbaits worked over the pads, chatterbaits along drop-offs, and weedless soft plastics for punching through matted grass.
