Indian Head-Mattawoman Creek

Indian Head-Mattawoman Creek is classic tidal snakehead water, the kind of skinny, brushy creek these fish were built for. Look for them tucked into pads, matted grass, and downed wood along the shallow edges, especially where the current slackens out of the main flow. Snakehead here relate hard to cover—they'll sit motionless under a mat for an hour, then crush a bait the second it wobbles overhead. Because the creek is tidal, with Marshall Hall the nearest reference station about 3.0 miles off, timing matters as much as location. High water pushes fish deep into the flooded grass where they're nearly unreachable; as the tide starts to ebb, that same grass drains and funnels baitfish—and snakehead—toward creek channels and points, which is when the topwater bite really turns on.

Access-wise, there's a boat ramp mapped nearby, closest about 0.38 mi, making this an easy creek to fish from a kayak or small boat if you want to work the skinny backwaters at will. Shore anglers aren't shut out either—parking is available nearby, closest around 1.0 mi from the water, so a short walk gets you to the bank.
