L-17 canal

L-17 is classic South Florida bullseye water — a straight, sun-baked canal where the fish stack up tight to whatever cover they can find. Look for them holding around matted vegetation, pad clumps, overhanging grass lines, and any sunken wood or rip-rap edges where the current breaks. Because this stretch is tidal, with Boynton Beach/Lake Worth as the closest reference station about 2.8 miles off, movement through the day matters. High water pushes snakehead up into the shallows and back into flooded grass to ambush bait, while low tide pulls them out to the deeper edges and channel breaks. The real trigger is the falling tide — as water drains off the flats and pulls bait with it, snakehead position on the drop-offs and feed aggressively, making the last two hours of an ebb some of the best topwater windows you'll get here.

Access is workable but modest — mapped parking sits closest at roughly 0.64 miles from the water, so plan on a short walk with gear. If you'd rather fish from a kayak or small boat, there's a ramp mapped about 0.48 miles out, which lets you cover more of the canal's cover-heavy banks.

Tactics stay simple: weedless frogs and buzzbaits worked over matted grass and pads, chatterbaits along cover edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker slop. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need it to horse fish out of cover before they wrap you up.
