Lake Pelham fishes like classic snakehead water: a non-tidal lake where the fish set up shop in cover and stay put unless conditions push them around. Look for pads, matted grass, and any laydown wood along the shoreline — snakehead will sit tight to that structure, ambushing from the shade rather than roaming open water. Since there's no tide to plan around, let light and wind do the work. Early and late in the day, with the sun low, fish move shallow and get aggressive; through the heat of midday, shift your focus to shaded pockets under overhanging brush or deeper grass edges where they hold up. Wind pushing into a bank stacks bait and oxygen into the cover, and that's often when a stretch that's been dead all day suddenly turns on.

Access here is workable but not right on top of the water — shore anglers will find mapped parking about 0.62 mi out, so plan on a short walk in with your gear. If you're floating it, there's a boat ramp roughly 0.66 mi away, and a kayak is honestly the better tool for slipping into the pockets and pad fields snakehead favor.

Tackle-wise, keep it simple and weedless: walk a weedless topwater frog or buzzbait right over the matted grass and pads, and don't be afraid to twitch it and let it sit — snakehead often blow up on the pause. Chatterbaits worked along grass edges cover water fast and draw reaction strikes. When fish are buried deep in slop, a weedless soft plastic punched into the thickest cover gets it done. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you need that horsepower to horse them out of cover the instant they eat, because a snakehead given slack will bury you in the pads and it's over.
