Massey Creek

Massey Creek fishes like classic Mid-Atlantic snakehead water — a tidal tributary where fish tuck into pads, matted grass, and sunken wood along the edges, ambushing anything that moves. Because it's tidal (Indian Head, Md. is the closest reference station, about 4.6 miles off), the water level swings the fish's position throughout the day. On high tide, snakehead push way back into flooded grass and brush, sometimes so shallow you'll only see a wake. As the tide starts to ebb, they slide off that skinny cover toward creek channels and drain mouths, and that falling water is when the bite really turns on — moving bait pulls fish out of the vegetation and into range.

Access here is workable but modest. There's mapped parking near the water, closest around 0.67 mile out, so plan on a short walk if you're bank fishing. For boat or kayak anglers, there's a ramp mapped roughly 0.53 mile away, which makes launching a small boat or yak the more efficient way to cover the grass lines and work the ebb properly.

Tactically, keep it weedless and heavy. Walk a weedless frog or buzzbait over matted grass and pads, especially on the fall, then follow up with a chatterbait or weedless soft plastic through the same lanes. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need it horsing fish out of cover.
