Prosperous Bayou is a quiet, non-tidal bay, and that steadiness actually works in your favor — there's no tide table to fuss over, just water levels holding fairly consistent day to day. Snakehead here relate hard to cover: matted grass, lily pads, and sunken wood along the edges are where they set up to ambush. In summer, look for shade lines and any wind-blown pockets pushing bait and oxygen into the cover; that's where a snakehead will hold tight and wait.

Low light is your best window on Prosperous Bayou — early morning and again toward dusk, when snakehead push shallow and get aggressive on top. Midday during the heat, shift your focus to shaded pockets under overhanging brush or thicker mats where fish tuck away from the sun. Wind matters too; a light breeze stacking bait against a grass line can turn on a bite that was dead an hour before.

Shore access is workable, with parking mapped nearby, closest around 2.5 miles from the water, so plan for a walk-in approach. If you want more mobility to cover the pads and wood, launching a kayak or boat is the better call — there's a boat ramp mapped roughly 2.68 miles out. Either way, come rigged with weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits for working the mats, chatterbaits for searching grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into the thick stuff. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need it to horse these fish out of cover the second they eat.
