Quantico Creek

Quantico Creek fishes like a lot of tidal snakehead water around here—slow, moody, and stacked with cover the fish use to ambush. Look for them tucked into pads, matted grass, and laydown wood along the margins. Snakehead don't roam much until they're forced to, so on a high, flooded tide they'll push way back into flooded grass and brush, almost impossible to reach. That's when you wait. As the water starts to drop, those fish get pushed out of the skinny stuff and stage on the edges of cover—points of grass, the lip of a pad field, wood on a bend. The falling tide is when Quantico Creek turns on, because it concentrates fish into predictable ambush spots and gets them feeding before they're pinned in the shallows again.

Shore access is workable but not right on top of the water—mapped parking sits about 0.74 mi out, so plan on a short walk with your gear. If you want to cover more of the creek's cover-heavy banks, a boat or kayak is the better call; the nearest ramp is roughly 1.79 mi away, which puts you in position to fish the falling tide properly.

Gear-wise, keep it simple and weedless: hollow-body frogs and buzzbaits worked over the pads and grass, chatterbaits along wood edges, and weedless soft plastics when they're finicky. Run 40-65 lb braid—you need it to horse fish out of cover before they wrap you up.
