Retention pond

This little retention pond is textbook bullseye water — small, self-contained, and stacked with the kind of cover these fish love to ambush from. Look for them tight to pads, matted grass edges, and any laydown wood along the bank. Since there's no tide pushing anything through, these fish set their own schedule based on light and temperature, so your best bet is working the margins where shade meets open water, especially where wind has pushed debris or duckweed into a pocket. Snakeheads will sit right under that cover waiting for something to move overhead.

Because it's non-tidal, forget solunar-tide charts and focus purely on light. Dawn and dusk are prime — low light gets them cruising the edges and hitting topwater aggressively. Midday heat pushes them deeper into shade or thicker vegetation, so slow down and pick apart shaded pockets rather than blind-casting open banks.

Access here is bank and kayak-carry territory — there's no ramp mapped within about 3 miles, so plan on walking in. Parking is available nearby, closest about 0.46 mi from the water, so bring a cart or be ready for a short hike with gear.

Tactics: weedless frogs and buzzbaits over the pads, chatterbaits along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker cover. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need the muscle to horse them out of the vegetation once hooked.
