Tamarac Canal

Tamarac Canal is a solid stretch of skinny water for bullseye snakehead, and since it's non-tidal you don't have to worry about timing a swing—these fish just settle into a rhythm based on light and cover. Look for them tucked against edges holding vegetation, matted grass lines, and any wood or brush hanging over the bank. Snakehead in canals like this love ambush points where shade or a wind-blown mat of cover concentrates baitfish, so scan for pockets where the wind has pushed pads or duckweed against a bank.

Early and late light are your best windows here. Snakehead get aggressive on top in that low-light window, then slide into shade or thicker cover once the sun climbs and the heat sets in. Wind-blown cover is worth hunting all day since it holds fish even when the sun's high.

Shore access is workable—there's mapped parking about 0.39 mi from the water, close enough for a rod-and-frog walk-and-cast approach. If you want to cover more of the canal, there's a boat ramp roughly 2.3 miles out, which makes a kayak or small boat worthwhile for reaching stretches shore-bound anglers can't easily hit.

Tactics stay simple and proven: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the grass and pads, chatterbaits for a little more vibration in murkier stretches, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker mats. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid—these fish bury up in cover the second they're hooked, and you need the strength to horse them out clean.
