Bear Neck Creek

Bear Neck Creek fishes like a lot of the better tidal snakehead water around here — it's all about finding the cover. Snakeheads hold tight to lily pads, matted grass, and any sunken wood they can ambush from. Work the shady edges and pockets in that cover rather than open water; that's where they sit and wait.

Being tidal, with the nearest NOAA reference at Rhode River (County Wharf) about 1.2 miles off, the tide dictates everything. High water pushes fish shallow into the grass and pads to feed, while a falling tide pulls baitfish and snakeheads off the banks toward creek channels and current breaks — that ebb stage is when the bite really turns on, so plan trips around the last couple hours of the outgoing tide.

Access here is workable both ways. Shore anglers can find parking mapped nearby, closest around 0.52 mile from the water, making for a short walk in. If you'd rather cover more water, there's a boat ramp mapped about 0.31 mile away, and a kayak is a great way to slip into the skinnier pockets shore access can't reach.

Tackle-wise, keep it simple and stout: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked slow over the pads, chatterbaits for reaction strikes along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker mats. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you need the muscle to horse these fish out of cover once they eat.
