Midday in summer heat, look for shaded pockets under overhanging brush or the shadow line off the spillway structure—fish slide into that shade and still feed opportunistically.

Shore access works fine here; mapped parking is roughly 0.67 mi from the water, so plan on a short walk in with a light rod bag.
