Nanticoke River

The Nanticoke is a solid snakehead fishery, and since it's non-tidal, you don't have to think about current or a moving water column—it's all about reading cover and light. Snakehead here relate heavily to structure: lily pads, matted grass, and fallen wood along the banks are where they'll sit and ambush. Because there's no tide to organize feeding windows, focus on low-light periods—early morning and evening—when fish push shallow and get aggressive. Wind-blown banks that stack baitfish against cover are worth targeting any time of day, and in the heat of summer, shaded pockets under overhanging trees or thick canopy become key holding areas as fish avoid direct sun.

Access here is mostly a foot-and-paddle game. Shore anglers have mapped parking nearby, with the closest spot about 1.84 miles from the water, so plan on a short walk in. If you're bringing a kayak or small boat, there's a boat ramp mapped roughly 2.38 miles out, giving you the ability to work the pads and grass lines from the water and cover more bank than shore-bound anglers can.

Tactically, this is frog water. Walk weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits right over the mats and grass edges, letting pauses draw reaction strikes. Chatterbaits worked along wood and grass edges also produce, especially in stained water. Rig everything on 40-65 lb braid to horse fish out of cover, and keep weedless soft plastics ready for punching through thicker mats.
