How to fish Chicamuxen Creek

Access, tides & where the fish hold. Pick how you're fishing:
๐ŸŒŠ Tidal water NOAA Quantico, Va. ยท 3.7 mi
Falling now โ€” next Low tide 7:13 PM (in 5h 6m).
High 1:21 AM ยท 1.6โ€ฒLow 7:12 AM ยท 0.4โ€ฒHigh 1:44 PM ยท 1.4โ€ฒLow 7:13 PM ยท 0.3โ€ฒ
๐ŸŽฃ Fish the tide, not the clock: snakehead pin bait to the grass on the flood, then feed hard as the falling (ebb) tide drains it out of the cover โ€” the last couple hours of the outgoing into low slack is prime.

Chicamuxen Creek fishes like most tidal snakehead water in this region: the fish stack up wherever there's something to hide behind. Look for lily pads, matted grass, and fallen wood along the creek edges. Snakehead push into skinny, cover-choked pockets to ambush and rest, then slide out to the drop-offs and creek channels as tide dictates. Since it's tidal, with Quantico as the nearest reference station about 3.7 miles off, timing matters more than location.

High tide floods the grass and pads, scattering fish into the flooded cover where they're tough to draw out. As the tide starts to fall, snakehead get pushed off the skinny stuff into the well-defined edges and channels, and that ebb movement usually triggers the most aggressive bite of the day. Fish moving water when you can.

Access here is workable but not right on top of the creek. Shore anglers have parking mapped nearby, closest around 1.48 miles out, so plan for a walk-in approach. If you're running a kayak or small boat, there's a boat ramp about 2.24 miles away that gets you on the water and lets you work the cover more thoroughly.

Gear up heavy โ€” 40 to 65 lb braid is the standard here to horse fish out of grass and wood. Weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked over the pads draw violent strikes, and chatterbaits or weedless soft plastics fished along cover edges on the falling tide will get bit just as hard.
