How to fish Coles Cove just off Mill Creek
Coles Cove tucked off Mill Creek is classic snakehead water โ shallow, quiet, and thick with the cover these fish love. Look for them holding tight to lily pads, matted grass edges, and sunken wood along the shoreline breaks. Snakehead in here are ambush predators, so any transition zone where thick vegetation meets a slightly deeper pocket is worth working slowly and methodically.
Because this stretch is tidal, with Solomons Island the nearest reference station about 1.9 miles off, timing matters. High tide pushes snakehead deep into the flooded grass and pads where they're nearly untouchable. As the water starts to fall, they slide out toward the edges and creek channels to feed, and that ebb movement is when the bite really turns on โ target the last two hours of the outgoing tide if you can swing it.
Access here is workable but not overly convenient. Shore anglers will find mapped parking around 1.22 miles from the water, so plan on a walk-in approach. Boat and kayak anglers have it easier, with a ramp about 0.54 miles away, making small watercraft the more efficient way to cover this cove's cover-heavy water.
Gear up with 40-65 lb braid, weedless frogs and buzzbaits for topwater strikes over the pads, and chatterbaits or weedless soft plastics for subsurface presentations along grass edges.
