Indian Head-Mattawoman Creek fishes like classic snakehead water — tidal, weedy, and full of ambush points. Snakeheads here tuck into pads, matted grass, and laydown wood along the shallow edges, especially where current softens out of the main flow. On higher water they push way back into the vegetation and flooded brush, almost impossible to dig out, but as the tide starts to fall they slide off that cover toward the drop-offs and channel edges, funneling through gaps in the grass. That falling tide is the key window — moving water pulls baitfish out with it, and snakeheads position to intercept, making the last two-thirds of the ebb the most reliable bite of the day.

Shore anglers can work the grass lines from the bank, with mapped parking about 0.74 mile from the water — plan for a short walk in. If you want to cover more of the creek's cuts and pad fields, a boat ramp roughly 1.78 miles away gives kayak and small boat access, which really opens up the skinny backwaters where the bigger snakehead like to sit.

Tactics stay simple: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the pads and grass, chatterbaits along the edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker cover. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need it once a snakehead buries into the vegetation.
