Lake Artemesia

Lake Artemesia is a quiet, non-tidal lake, and that steadiness works in your favor with snakehead — no tide charts to juggle, just light and temperature calling the shots. Look for them holding tight to cover: matted pads, shoreline grass edges, and any submerged wood or brush piles along the bank. Snakehead here ambush from these pockets, so work the seams between open water and vegetation rather than blind-casting the middle.

Early morning and last light are prime, when fish push shallow to feed under low light. On breezy days, hit the wind-blown side where cover gets pushed and baitfish get pinned against it. Through the heat of midday, shift to whatever shade the grass or brush offers — snakehead will tuck in and hold rather than roam.

Access here is bank and kayak territory. Mapped parking sits about 0.36 mi from the water, so plan a short walk in with gear. There's no boat ramp within roughly 3 miles, so this is really a wade-and-cast or hand-launch kayak spot, not a trailer-boat destination.

Tactics: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the pads and grass, chatterbaits for a little vibration in stained water, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker mats. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you need the strength to horse fish out of cover the second they strike.
