Lake Elkhorn sits still and steady, and that non-tidal nature works in your favor since you're not fighting a clock built around tide swings. Snakehead here relate hard to cover — pads, matted grass, laydown wood, any shady pocket along the bank. They'll cruise the edges of vegetation looking for an ambush point, then sit tight and wait. On calm days you can sometimes spot them finning just under the surface or gulping air near thick mats, which is your tip-off that a fish is holding there.

Early and late light are your best windows, especially in warmer months when the shallows heat up fast. Midday can still produce if you find shade lines or wind-blown cover pushing bait against a bank — snakehead will slide into that broken water to feed. Shore access is solid, with parking mapped about 0.2 miles from the water, so wading the bank and working cover systematically is realistic here. If you'd rather cover more water or slip a kayak into the quieter pockets, there's a boat ramp mapped roughly 2.52 miles out.

Tactics stay simple: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the slop, chatterbaits for a subsurface search bait, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker mats. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need it to horse these fish out of cover once they eat.
