Little Elk Creek

Little Elk Creek is classic snakehead water — a tidal system where these invasives push into shallow cover to ambush anything that moves. Look for them tucked into lily pads, matted grass, and laydown wood along the creek's edges. Snakeheads are shallow, cover-oriented fish, and they'll sit motionless under a pad mat or beside a submerged log waiting to blow up on prey, so the key is targeting structure rather than open water.

Because this stretch is tidal, with the nearest NOAA reference at Old Frenchtown Wharf about 1.3 miles off, tide stage matters as much as location. High water lets snakehead push deep into flooded grass and back into skinny pockets that are unreachable at other stages. As the tide starts to fall, though, baitfish and frogs get pulled out of that skinny cover and funneled toward creek channels and points, and snakehead follow — the falling tide concentrates fish and triggers some of the most aggressive topwater strikes you'll see all season.

Access here is workable but not heavily developed. Shore anglers have mapped parking roughly 0.62 miles out, while paddlers or small boats can use a boat ramp about 0.7 miles away.

Gear up with 40-65 lb braid, weedless frogs and buzzbaits worked over the mats, chatterbaits along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker cover.
