How to fish Mallows Bay

Access, tides & where the fish hold. Pick how you're fishing:

๐ŸŽฃ Fish the tide, not the clock: snakehead pin bait to the grass on the flood, then feed hard as the falling (ebb) tide drains it out of the cover โ€” the last couple hours of the outgoing into low slack is prime.

Mallows Bay is one of those places where snakehead fishing feels like it was designed for the species โ€” shallow, brushy, tidal water thick with the wood and sunken debris that give this bay its character, plus scattered grass and pad edges wherever light reaches bottom. Snakehead sit tight to that cover, ambushing baitfish along shadow lines and current seams, and they'll hold there through most tide stages, just at different depths and distances from the wood.

Because this is tidal water off Liverpool Point, tide stage matters. High water lets snakehead push shallow into flooded grass and brush, sometimes barely visible in a few inches of water. As the tide starts to ebb, baitfish get pulled out of that skinny cover and funneled along drains and current edges, and that's when snakehead turn aggressive and chase. Plan to fish the last couple hours of the fall.

Access here leans bank and kayak. There's no boat ramp mapped within about three miles, so this reads as a carry-in spot โ€” kayak or canoe is the practical way to reach the scattered wood and grass. Shore anglers can work the margins too, with parking mapped roughly 1.23 miles from the water. Bring weedless frogs, buzzbaits, chatterbaits, and weedless soft plastics on 40-65 lb braid to horse fish out of the timber.

๐Ÿ›ถ Boat ramps & launches
No boat ramp mapped within ~1.5 mi โ€” this is likely a bank or kayak-carry spot. A car-topper or kayak launched from shore access is often the play; check the parking options under โ€œShore.โ€
