How to fish Monie Creek

Access, tides & where the fish hold. Pick how you're fishing:
🌊 Tidal water NOAA Whitehaven · 3.6 mi
Falling now β€” next Low tide 3:05 PM (in 58m).
Low 3:10 AM Β· 0.4β€²High 8:29 AM Β· 2.1β€²Low 3:05 PM Β· 0.3β€²High 9:12 PM Β· 2.6β€²
🎣 Fish the tide, not the clock: snakehead pin bait to the grass on the flood, then feed hard as the falling (ebb) tide drains it out of the cover β€” the last couple hours of the outgoing into low slack is prime.

Monie Creek fishes like a lot of Eastern Shore tidal water β€” snakehead here aren't cruising open channels, they're tucked into the ugly stuff. Look for pads, matted grass, and downed wood along the fringes of the creek where the current slows and baitfish stack up. These fish ambush, so any shady seam where cover meets open water is worth working slow and methodical before moving on.

Tide matters more than most anglers expect. On the flood, snakehead push up into the flooded grass and shallow pockets to feed, and they can be maddeningly hard to draw out of that cover. As the tide starts to ebb, though, everything funnels back toward the main creek, and that falling water pulls fish out of the skinny stuff into range β€” that's when the bite really turns on. Time a trip around Whitehaven's tide charts (about 3.6 miles off) and plan to be fishing as that water starts dropping.

Access-wise, there's a boat ramp mapped roughly 0.95 mi out, which makes launching a kayak or small boat the most efficient way to cover the creek's cover-heavy banks. Shore access exists too, with parking mapped around 2.63 mi from the water, though it's a longer walk in.

Gear up heavy β€” 40-65 lb braid, weedless frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the pads, chatterbaits along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics for punching through the thicker mats.
