How to fish North East River

Access, tides & where the fish hold. Pick how you're fishing:
๐ŸŒŠ Tidal water NOAA Charlestown, Northeast River ยท 0.7 mi
Rising now โ€” next High tide 4:40 PM (in 2h 33m).

๐ŸŽฃ Fish the tide, not the clock: snakehead pin bait to the grass on the flood, then feed hard as the falling (ebb) tide drains it out of the cover โ€” the last couple hours of the outgoing into low slack is prime.

North East River is classic tidal snakehead water, and the fish here behave the way they do everywhere they've invaded โ€” they want cover. Look for pads, grass edges, and any laydown wood along the shoreline flats. Snakehead will bury up tight to that cover, especially as water warms, and they'll use the skinny stuff to ambush and to guard fry balls later in the season. Because this stretch is tidal, with Charlestown as the nearest reference station about 0.7 miles off, water movement really dictates where fish sit. High tide pushes them shallow into the grass and pad fields, sometimes right up against the bank, while low tide drains them back toward deeper edges and channels. The falling, ebb tide is the money window โ€” baitfish and frogs get flushed out of the shallows, and snakehead key on that movement, making it the most reliable time to get bit.

Access-wise, you can fish this from the bank, with parking mapped nearby, closest around 0.4 miles from the water, or launch a kayak or boat from a ramp mapped about 0.49 miles away, which opens up more of the grass lines and pockets.

Go weedless โ€” topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked over and through cover, chatterbaits along edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thicker mats. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid to horse them out once hooked.
