Old Annapolis City Reservoir is a quiet, non-tidal lake, and that steadiness is actually a gift for snakehead hunters — there's no clock to fight, just light and temperature. These fish push into the skinniest, thickest cover they can find: pad fields, matted grass, and any sunken wood along the margins. On calm mornings and again as the light fades, snakehead slide up shallow to ambush, and any wind pushing into a grass line or pad edge will stack baitfish and predators alike. Through the heat of the day, look to shade — overhanging brush or the deeper edge of a grass bed — where fish hold tight and wait.

Shore access here is about as good as it gets, with parking mapped just 0.02 mi from the water, so walking the bank and working visible cover is easy and efficient. If you want to cover more water or slip into backed-up pockets, a boat ramp roughly 2.11 mi away opens up kayak or small boat approaches to reach cover that's tougher to reach on foot.

Tactics stay simple and proven: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked slow and twitchy over matted vegetation, chatterbaits along grass edges, and weedless soft plastics punched into thick cover. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need the muscle when a snakehead buries back into the slop.
