This stretch of the Potomac's tidal reach fishes like classic snakehead water: shallow flats broken up by grass mats, scattered wood, and pad fields where these fish like to sit tight and ambush. Northern snakehead don't roam much on a whim, they hold in that cover and wait, so your job is putting a bait right on top of them rather than fishing open water. Warm, calm mornings are prime for surface blowups, especially when the sun's gotten enough on the shallows to pull fish shallow to sun and hunt.

Tide matters a lot here since this is a true tidal reach, with Marshall Hall the closest NOAA reference about 1.7 miles off. High water pushes snakehead well up into the flooded grass and pads, tucked into cover you can barely reach. As the tide starts to ebb, they slide back off that skinny water toward the drains, current seams, and the outer edges of the grass, and that transition from high to falling tide is when the bite really turns on. Fish the last two hours of the ebb hard.

Access here is workable but modest. Shore-bound anglers have mapped parking roughly 0.45 mile from the water, a walk-in approach that rewards working the bank slowly. For boat or kayak anglers, there's a ramp mapped about 0.87 mile off, giving you the mobility to hit multiple grass lines and wood piles as the tide drops.

Tackle-wise, stick to weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked right over the matted grass and pads, switching to a chatterbait or weedless soft plastic when fish are holding tighter to wood or deeper edges. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid, no exceptions, since these fish will bury you in cover the instant they're hooked.
