🎣 Fish the tide, not the clock: snakehead pin bait to the grass on the flood, then feed hard as the falling (ebb) tide drains it out of the cover — the last couple hours of the outgoing into low slack is prime.

The Severn is a solid tidal system for northern snakehead, and like most Chesapeake tributaries, the fish key hard on cover. Look for them tucked into lily pads, matted grass, and laydown wood along the shallow edges and coves off the main river. These fish are ambush predators—shallow, structure-oriented, and often visible cruising or gulping air on calm mornings.

Tide matters a lot here. On the high, snakehead push way back into flooded grass and brush, sometimes out of casting range from open water. As the tide starts to fall, they're forced out of that skinny cover and funnel toward creek mouths, points, and the edges of pads—this ebb stage is when the bite really turns on, since bait gets flushed out and the snakehead follow. Brewer Point tide data (about 4.7 miles off) is a good reference for timing trips around that dropping water.

Access-wise, shore anglers can find parking mapped roughly 0.64 miles from the water, so plan on a short walk to reach good pad edges. For better coverage of the grass lines and backwater pockets, a kayak or small boat is the way to go—there's a boat ramp about 0.21 miles from the river, making launch easy.

Rig up with 40-65 lb braid and throw weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits right over the slop, switching to chatterbaits or weedless soft plastics along cleaner edges and wood.
