South Creek

South Creek is classic tidal snakehead water, and the fish here behave the way they do everywhere in the Chesapeake system: they relate hard to cover. Look for them tight against pads, matted grass, and any laydown wood along the shoreline breaks. On higher water they push way up into the flooded grass and skinny backs of the creek, sometimes barely visible with just a nose or tail showing. As the tide starts to fall, that cover drains and concentrates baitfish, and snakehead slide out to the edges to ambush anything getting pushed off the flat. That ebbing tide is when the bite really turns on, and with Galesville, West River tide station only 0.7 mi off, it's worth timing a trip around that outgoing water.

Access here is workable both ways. Shore anglers have parking mapped nearby, closest around 0.68 mi from the bank, so plan on a short walk with your gear. If you've got a kayak or small boat, there's a ramp mapped much closer, about 0.14 mi out, which makes covering the grass lines and creek mouths a lot easier on a moving tide.

Gear up heavy — 40-65 lb braid, weedless soft plastics, and topwater frogs or buzzbaits worked right over the slop. Chatterbaits also draw vicious strikes along the grass edges as the water pulls out.
