Tuckahoe Creek

Tuckahoe Creek is classic snakehead water — a winding tidal system where these invasive fish tuck into pads, grass edges, and downed wood, waiting to ambush. On calm mornings you'll see them slurping air at the surface near cover, especially where lily pads meet a defined edge or a laydown breaks up the current. Because this is tidal water (Hillsboro station sits about 3.5 miles off), the stage of the tide matters as much as time of day. High water pushes snakehead up into flooded grass and shallow backwaters where they're tough to target directly. As the tide starts to fall, they slide back out toward defined edges and creek channels, and that ebb movement is when the bite really turns on — moving fish become feeding fish.

Shore access here is solid, with mapped parking as close as roughly 0.04 miles from the water, making it easy to walk in and work the bank without much gear. If you'd rather cover more water, a boat ramp about 0.14 miles away lets you launch a kayak or small boat to probe pockets and grass lines shore-bound anglers can't reach.

Tactics stay simple: weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits worked slowly over pads and grass draw explosive strikes, while chatterbaits and weedless soft plastics dredge slightly deeper edges. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need the muscle to horse fish out of cover before they wrap you up.
