Wades Bay

Wades Bay fishes like classic tidal snakehead water — a big, quiet flat where fish push into whatever cover they can find. Look for pads, matted grass, and laydown wood along the edges; that's where snakeheads sit and ambush, especially when the sun's up and they want shade and current break. As the tide moves through, those fish reposition, sliding into skinnier cover on the push and dropping back toward deeper edges as the water pulls out.

Tidal movement is the whole game here, with Quantico, Va. about 2.9 miles off giving you a solid read on stage. High water lets snakeheads bury deep into flooded grass and pads, tough to pry out. As the tide starts falling, bait gets flushed off the flats and out of the vegetation, and snakeheads slide out to intercept it — that ebb stage is when the bite really turns on and fish get aggressive and visible.

Access is workable but not right on top of the water — mapped parking sits around 2.19 miles out, and the nearest boat ramp is about 2.89 miles away, so plan for a short drive either way. A kayak or small boat lets you work the cover more thoroughly once you're in.

For tactics, throw weedless topwater frogs and buzzbaits right over the matted stuff, work chatterbaits along grass edges, and keep weedless soft plastics ready for tighter wood cover. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid — you'll need it to horse fish out of cover once they hit.
