Waterworks Park pond

Waterworks Park pond is classic snakehead water — small, non-tidal, and stacked with the kind of shallow cover these fish love to ambush from. Since there's no tide to plan around, focus on light rather than water movement. Early mornings and evenings are prime, when snakehead push tight to pads, matted grass, and any laydown wood along the margins. Midday in summer, look for shade lines and wind-blown pockets where cover concentrates baitfish — snakehead will slide into that shade and sit motionless until something crosses their path.

Shore access here is about as good as it gets, with mapped parking only around 0.02 mi from the water, so you can walk up and start fan-casting the pads without much of a hike. If you'd rather work the pond from a kayak or small boat, there's a boat ramp mapped roughly 2.11 mi away — a bit of a haul, but it opens up the far bank and any deeper pockets you can't reach comfortably on foot.

Tactically, this is frog water. Throw a weedless topwater frog or a buzzbait right across the mats and let it sit in the holes — snakehead explode on a paused bait. Chatterbaits and weedless soft plastics worked along grass edges also draw strikes when the topwater bite is slow. Spool up with 40-65 lb braid; you need the muscle to horse these fish out of cover the instant they hit.
